About the Event

Open Soil Atlas is a co-learning center for citizen scientists. Via our workshops and educational website, citizens become soil science experts, empowered to improve soil quality.

Data collected via the app EpiCollect will generate a high-resolution, open-access soil quality map. Through this, the relationship between healthy soils and healthy communities can be better recognized. City decision makers will be able to better identify suitable areas for urban gardening or urban forests and areas in need of remediation.

All citizens of Berlin are welcome to participate, regardless of background, experience level or circumstances. OSA is committed to providing equal opportunities for all persons and does not discriminate or on the basis of race, colour, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, age, disability, citizenship or legal immigration status.

We host regular workshops to connect, inform and empower participants. You will meet the Open Soil Atlas Team and discuss the project concept, principles, values and aims.

You´ll receive clear guidelines on conducting soil tests and upload results to our data collection platform. During our 2 hour session, there will be time to answer any burning questions. We will enable participants to connect and join an active community of citizen scientists. All participants are helping to make our city and our planet a better place for us and future generations.

After the workshop, you can choose to meet in person to build soil testing experience, together with our soil expert! Here you can also share your experience via #opensoilatlas to connect with and encourage others.
